This stunning Sapphire and Diamond Ring is in a five stone arrangement that has been a popular and timeless design for over 150 years. The alternating Diamonds and Sapphires provide an ideal contrast for each other. The hand cut diamonds are referred to as 'old cut' and these would have been high quality examples in their day. The Sapphires are also of high quality and the rich 'Ceylon' blue colour is indicative of the quality of Sapphires that were found in the British colony of Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, back around 1900. It is a colour of such an intensity, not found in todays mines. The Platinum that the diamonds are set in would have been revolutionary when this ring was made around the turn of the century and would be amongst the first use of platinum at the time, as it was a new metal alloy for the British jewellery industry. The main ring is made using 18ct Yellow gold and it is fine condition. Suitable as a collectible dress ring or to celebrate a wedding anniversary or other special occasion.
